Line
Line is arguably the most basic and
immediate element of art. It is used
to define the contours of shapes and
to record the relationships between
forms. In addition to being purely
descriptive, lines can also
communicate complex qualities such
as movement, texture, tension,
weight, and energy. Therefore, it is
important not only to determine where
a line is drawn, but also to consider how to draw it. The exercises that follow investigate these expressive aspects of line. As you explore the interface, look to the bottom of the screen for key observations and interesting facts.
